Located in the Govind Wildlife Sanctuary in Uttarakhand, India, this trek is a lower Himalayan-high altitude trek that takes you through some of the most breathtaking landscapes in the region.

The trek starts from Sankri, a quaint little village that serves as the base camp for many treks in this region. From here, you’ll embark on a 6-day journey that will take you through dense forests, alpine meadows, and rocky ridges. The highlight of this trek is undoubtedly the Phulara Ridge itself – a thrilling ridge walk that offers panoramic views of snow-capped peaks and lush valleys.

One of the best things about this trek is that it’s relatively unknown and unexplored. This means that you’ll get to experience the beauty of nature without having to deal with crowds of tourists. The trail is also not very difficult, making it suitable for beginners as well as experienced trekkers.

If you’re planning to do this trek, it’s best to go between April and June or September and November when the weather is pleasant and the trails are at their best. You’ll need to carry warm clothes, sturdy shoes, a backpack with essentials like water bottles, snacks, and a first aid kit.

Phulara Ridge Trek Itinerary

Day 1Dehradun to Sankri

Distance: 200 km
Time Taken: 10 hours (Drive)
Altitude: 1,950 m (6,400 ft)

The Phulara Ridge Trek starts from the quaint little village Sankri. The drive from Dehradun to Sankri is a 200 km road journey through winding mountain roads. If you book transport with us, the vehicles will pick you up at Dehradun I.S.B.T at 7 am. You can expect to reach Sankri by evening.

We’ll be having breakfast at Kempty Falls, Mussoorie. We’ll drive through Mussoorie & other picturesque villages with the breathtaking view of the green hills and the vivid flora during this remarkable road journey. We’re going to drive along the banks of the River Tons, which later changes course to become the River Supin.

We’ll be having lunch at Purola, where you can enjoy the authentic cuisine of the region. We’ll reach the Sankri village by evening. Over the past few years, Sankri has become a bustling hub for trekkers because of the many treks situated in the area. 

The stay will be in a hotel/guest house and you can see a sensational view of the sunset in the valley. Your trek leader will brief you properly about all the details of the trek, and dinner will be served. 

Day 2Sankri to Sikolta

Distance: 7 km
Time Taken: 6 hours

Get ready for heaven! The tranquil valleys of the mountains are calling out to you.

It’s going to be an amazing start to your trek today. We’ll wake up, do some stretching and warm-up exercises, have a healthy breakfast and start the trek.

After a short trek from the main market, be mesmerized by the peaks of Swargarohini (I, II, III) Bandarpunch peak, the Black peak that awaits you. It’s relaxing to walk under the shade of trees as you ascend through dense pine forest. Look out for rare Himalayan birds on your way up!

At the end of this trail, you will reach Jaional Thach. You will also be able to spot Phulara Ridge from here. From here, the trail splits into two – one of them leads to the famous Juda Ka Talab en route Kedarkantha Peak. The other trail leads into a dense forest, towards Phulara ridge. 

We will continue trekking for an hour, and reach our campsite for the night, Sikolta. It is a large and enticing meadow. There are several streams, and there are also a few broken shepherd huts. 

We’ll have dinner and rest for the night. 

Day 3Sikolta to Bhoj Gadi

Distance: 3 km
Time Taken: 4 hours

3400 m (11,155 ft.)

It’s time to get going after a healthy breakfast. After thirty minutes of climbing through the forest, we will reach a bridge that spans the valley. A beautiful blooming small clearing is known as Karsu Thach lies ahead. The receding treeline can be seen clearly from this Thach, and the unexpected sight of the Kedarkantha peak greets you. 

We will enter a different section of undulating meadows. The Bhoj Gadi campsite is half an hour away from here. Bhoj Gadi is a lovely meadow. You can get panoramic views of Kedarkantha, Vijay Top, Dev Kyara, and Swargarohini from here. It’s even possible to trek to Kedarkantha Peak from here!

Day 4Bhoj Gadi to Pushtara Thach via Phulara Ridge

Distance: 8 Km 
Time Taken: 6 Hours 
Altitude: 3700 m (12,139 ft.)

From the Bhoj Gadi campsite, you can clearly see the Phulara ridge. It takes approx. 45 minutes from here to get to the ridge. 

The climb today will be very scenic with the amazing views of mountains accompanying you all around. Keep your eyes out for rare Himalayan birds in this region.

We will reach the top of the ridge after a steep ascent. You can take in an amazing panoramic view from the top. Peaks like Swargarohini, Kala Nag, Devkiyara, Bandarpoonch, Rangnala, Hanuman Top, Top of Sarutal, Vijay Top, and Kedarkantha will be visible. 

After spending some time and enjoying the views, we will start heading to the Pushtara meadows. We will keep following the ridge and the infamous ridge walk of the Phulara Ridge Trek. 

From here, we will have to descend a bit to reach Pushtara Thach. There are several small streams flowing through the meadow, which makes it an excellent camping site. 

We’ll have dinner and rest after a tiring day. 

Day 5Pushtara Thatch to Taluka & Drive to Sankri

Distance: 8 Km 
Time Taken: 6 Hours 
Altitude: 2120 m (6,955 ft.)

The descent to Taluka is pretty straight, but be cautious while descending. We will enter a dense forest, where the trails are difficult to follow. You can also see the Langurs hanging from tree to tree here.

At the end of the trail, we will reach Taluka. Taluka is a village with a few shops and plenty of smiles. This is the last village with road connectivity. The famous Har Ki Dun Trek also starts from here. 

As soon as we reach Taluka, there will be a vehicle waiting to take us back to Sankri. We’ll be staying in a guest house/homestay. You can enjoy the feel of local traditions and the village. 

We’ll rest here for the night. 

Day 6Sankri to Dehradun

Distance: 200 km
Time Taken: 8 hours (Drive)
Altitude: 1,950 m (6,400 ft)

If you booked transport with us, your transport will be ready and waiting to take you back to Dehradun in the morning. You can expect to reach Dehradun by 6 PM. The cab will drop you at ISBT Dehradun.

The best time to visit Phulara Ridge Trek is between the months of March and June when the weather is pleasant and the region is devoid of heavy rainfall or snowfall. During this time, the temperature ranges from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, making it comfortable for trekkers to explore the region without being affected by the cold. July to August is the monsoon season in Uttarakhand, and the Phulara Ridge Trek receives heavy rainfall during these months, making it challenging for trekkers to complete the trek.
