Pangarchulla Peak Trek is an ideal trek for experienced trekkers looking to summit their first Himalayan Peak. Pangarchulla Peak at 4550 m can be your first Himalayan summit. It gently introduces you to climbing and the basics of mountaineering. This is the perfect trek for you if you’re looking to climb and train for 6000+ m Himalayan peaks in the future.
Depending on the season, Pangarchulla Peak may require the use of technical climbing gears such as ropes, mountaineering boots, crampons, ice-axe and such.
The summit day of the Pangarchulla Trek is infamous for being one of the most difficult. However, the views from the summit route are absolutely worth it. The views are dominated by mountains like Mt. Nanda Devi, Mt. Kamet, Mt. Chaukhamba and many other famous mountains.

The Pangarchulla Peak Trek starts from the town of Joshimath. The drive from Dehradun to Joshimath is a long and tiring 290 Km road journey through winding mountain roads. If you book transport with us, the vehicles will pick you up at Dehradun I.S.B.T at 7 am. You can expect to reach Joshimath by late evening.
We’ll be spending the night at a guest house in Joshimath and starting our Pangarchulla Peak Trek the next day.
Today is the first day of your trek. We’ll be waking up early, having breakfast, and start our Journey towards the Dhak village (the road head for the Pangarchulla Trek). The drive to Dhak village is a half-hour beautiful ride on the mountain roads. From here, you start to get the views of Mt. Dronagiri.
We will start the trek and follow the uphill trail from Dhak village. On the trail, we will be crossing many villages such as Karachi and Tugashi. You can notice the lives of the villagers and their way of life in the mountains.
As we move up, the trail turns green and makes way for a dense forest of rhododendron, oak and pine trees. The trail to Guling is a gradual incline from here.
Once we reach Guling, we’ll have a cool-down session and have our lunch. We will be camping at Guling for the night.
This is the second day of the trek, and one of the easy ones. The Lower Khullara campsite is around 2 km from Guling. However, depending on the snow conditions on the trail, it can take around 3-4 hours to reach the campsite.
The Lower Khullara campsite is one of the most beautiful campsites. All through the winter season, this campsite is covered in snow and sometimes you may even have to camp on the snow. From here, you can see the Pangarchulla Peak on your left.
This is an important day of the trek so keep yourself hydrated and have proper food to prepare for the summit push the next day. It is very important to let your body rest and recover today because we will be starting the summit push at around 1 in the night.
This day is going to be the hardest and most adventurous day of the trek. We’ll be getting ready with all the necessary equipment for the climb and start around 1. This day is sure to be cold so be prepared to experience the wind chills on the Pangarchulla ridge. We will be aiming to reach the Pangarchulla summit by 11 am.
The route to the summit is full of boulders covered in soft snow which makes it really hard to negotiate them. This section of the route will require your utmost attention and consciousness. In the peak winters, when the boulders are completely covered in snow, it is comparatively easier to negotiate this section of the climb.
As you’ll be getting near to the summit, the last section of the climb may need a fixed rope depending on the snow conditions. Once you have reached the summit, you’ll be mesmerized by the 360-degree views of the majestic Himalayan mountains all around you. After spending some time at the summit, start to trek back towards the Lower Khullara campsite on the same route.
In all our summit treks, we have a turnaround time for everyone’s safety. For Pangarchulla Peak Trek, the turnaround time will be at noon depending on the weather and group fitness.
Today, we will descend to Joshimath from the Lower Khullara campsite after having a healthy breakfast. Immerse yourself in nature and the surrounding beauty one last time before they hide behind the mountain and move out of your sight. We’ll have lunch on the way and leisurely descend the mountain.
We’ll drive to Joshimath and overnight stay in Joshimath.
Today is the day you’ll be parting ways with your trek leader and trek mates. It is sure to be an emotional moment for everyone after spending a week in the mountains together on the Pangarchulla Peak trail.
If you opt for transportation with us, your vehicles will pick you up in Joshimath in the morning and leave you at Dehradun I.S.B.T by 8 PM. If you plan to continue your travels. you can say goodbye to us at Joshimath.
