The Kedartal trek is for those who have a love for adventure. It is a difficult trek, but it is well worth the effort. The trek climbs up to the glacial Kedartal lake, which sits amid a cauldron of big mountains.
Famous mountains of our country rise in front of you in this cauldron, including Mt. Thalaysagar, Mt. Bhrigupanth, Manda Parvat, and Mt. Jogin 1, Mt Jogin 2. You will camp in the shadow of the mighty Mt. Thalaysagar and Mt. Bhrigupanth. The Thalaysagar peak can be seen perfectly in the reflection of the emerald-coloured waters of the Kedartal Lake. It is a remote, challenging trail that offers trekkers a measure of solitude in comparison to other, more crowded trails.
The trail climbs to an altitude of 15,580 ft in just a few days, presenting trekkers with steep ascents and descents on tricky terrain as the journey includes hiking along a narrow ledge with a 60-degree incline. This can be not easy to manage while also trying to catch your breath at high altitudes, so you need to be in good physical and mental shape before attempting the Kedartal trek.
With no human habitation at such high altitudes and very few other trekkers on the trail, you’ll feel like you have the whole mountain to yourself. You will be rewarded with beautiful views of the bhoj forest and high-altitude meadows. The trail to Kedartal is rocky with some difficult sections like the spider wall and requires trekkers to be careful where they step, but the views along the way are well worth the effort.
The serene Kedartal lake is a sight to behold, and trekkers who complete the trek feel a sense of accomplishment.
It is a great choice for those looking for a challenge. With its steep climbs and treacherous terrain, Kedartal is sure to test your limits. But if you’re up for the challenge you’re sure to have an unforgettable experience.

We will be starting the Kedartal trek today after a healthy breakfast. The Kedartal trek is a challenging hike that passes through beautiful forests, with lovely views of waterfalls and mountains. On the third day of your trek, you will trek to Bhoj Kharak at a height of 3,780 meters above sea level.
Trekking to Bhoj Kharak is an amazing experience that provides significant height gain. Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the trek. The trek begins when you cross the Bhagirathi River and pass by the ashrams of several sages on your way.
Once you gain some height, take the path that climbs sharply up the side of an ashram. This will lead you to the forest path to Bhoj Kharak and below you, you’ll be able to hear the Kedar Ganga stream thundering past.
You have to take a forest trail to start your journey to reach Bhoj Kharak. You must be vigilant as the valley narrows. The coniferous trees become birch trees. The spider wall, which only allows for a tiny passage, will also be encountered during the journey.
The camp is located in a flat area of Bhoj Kharak. To keep yourself hydrated, keep drinking water.
The trek takes about 4 to 5 hours depending on your fitness level and covers a distance of 8 kilometres. The trail passes through beautiful birch and cedar forests with lovely views of waterfalls and mountains.
The barks of the birch trees are used to make paper. Because of the bark’s durability and texture, many of our ancient Indian texts were written on the bark durability and texture. The locals also use it in their shoes as insulation from the cold.
Enjoy the stunning scenery and amazing views during the trek!

The trek from Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak is relatively easy, compared to the previous day’s climb and is definitely worth it for the beautiful views of the sunset alone. The terrain is mostly flat, but it’s not a cakewalk. You’ll have to watch out for the rocks in the rockfall section, and also be careful where you step in the scree section.
It’s definitely going to take a lot out of you, but the birch forests and meadows along the way make it all worth it.
The ascent is fairly steep at the beginning, as you leave the campsite at Bhoj Kharak. But soon enough, you’ll find yourself trekking through beautiful meadows that are alive with color in the springtime. This is an incredible setting for photography, especially with the snow-capped peak of Bhrigu Panth in the background.
You might also have a chance to encounter some high-altitude wildlife, like bharal (blue sheep), goral, Himalayan black bears, and a variety of birds. The climate gets colder as you gain altitude, so don’t be surprised if you see a thin layer of ice on the stones in the streams.
After passing two more water points, you’ll finally reach Kedar Kharak. The campsite is located in a huge dry hayfield, with only a few boulders and a large stream scattered throughout. It’s an exceptional sight to watch the sunset at Kedar Kharak.
As the red ball of fire sinks behind the snow-capped Bhrigupanth, the entire hayfield will take on an orange hue, before turning gray as night falls. camp here for the night.

The trek today is an 8-hour journey that takes you to the Kedartal Lake and back to our Kedar Kharak campsite. This is the most difficult and challenging part of the trek, as you need to ascend up to 4,750 meters.
The trek is full of rocks and boulders, so it’s important to have decent trekking shoes. Once you reach the Kedartal, our guide will take you to explore the lake area and nearby Thalay Sagar Peak.
This is an amazing place that is free from city pollution and gives you a chance to see some of nature’s most beautiful creations. The weather can be unpredictable at times, so it’s important to be prepared for anything.
There are no water sources along the way, so you will need to carry at least 2 litres of water with you. Cairns or small piles of rock can be seen along the route and act as markers to the Tal or lake so ensure you follow the trail. The Kedartal Lake is known for its beautiful emerald green hue.
Despite the challenges, this is an amazing and unforgettable experience that will give you a lifetime of memories. The enormous Thalay Sagar Peak, which casts a spellbinding reflection into the Kedar Tal lake, may be seen when you’ve trekked for 5 hours and are 0.5 kilometres away from the lake.
The emerald-coloured waters of the lake are serene enough to place you in a trance. Feel the exhaustion and fatigue of the trek leaving your body, as you lose yourself amidst this surreal paradise. Stay a while exploring around Kedar Tal, and capture albums filled with recollections to take away. The temperature falls drastically at Kedartal.
Although the water is very cold, it’s quite an experience to wet your feet in the emerald green lake. Stay a while here and soak in the scenery before turning back to Kedar Kharak on the same route.
