Ghepan Lake Trek Itinerary

Day 1Manali to Sissu (3130M) - Drive, 40 Km

The Ghepan Lake Trek starts with a beautiful drive to Sissu. Sissu is one of the remote villages of Lahaul-Spiti. It is located on the banks of the Chandra river.

We start the drive from Manali to Sissu, via Rohtang Pass. Sissu is at 3130 M so we’ll be staying at Sissu tonight to acclimatize to the high altitude.

The stay will be in a homestay and dinner will be served hot.

Day 2Sissu to Camp 1 (4 Km / 3 Hours)

The day starts with a hot tea. After breakfast, we start with a short drive to the trailhead, which is around 9 Km away from Sissu. From the trailhead, the trail is a gentle climb up.

The trail starts with a rocky section. We’ll be passing shepherd homes, and abandoned huts. The trail will eventually lead us to Camp 1. Camp 1 is a beautiful open meadow amidst snow-capped mountains.

We’ll camp here for the night and dinner will be served hot.

Day 3Camp 1 to Camp 2 (6 Km / 4 Hours)

Today, we’ll be trekking deeper into the valley, and closer to the Ghepan glacier. Once we start from Camp 1, we have to cross a river, after which is a series of ascents and descents.

Camp 2 is another meadow full of beautiful wildflowers. Far away from civilization, we’ll be spending the night here and get a good night’s sleep before approaching the Ghepan Ghat.

Day 4Camp 2 to Ghepan Lake (8 Km)

Today is the most awaited day of all, the trek to Ghepan Ghat! After starting from Camp 2, we ascend on a rocky section towards the ridge and then descend to a flat grass field. We’ll need to cross a small river nallah here.

Once we climb the final ridge, the neon blue Ghepan Lake reveals itself. It is an amazingly beautiful lake and you can see brilliant white chunks of ice from the Ghepan glacier floating on the lake. The lake is around 2-3 Km long.

After admiring the beauty and staying at the lake for a while, we’ll start to descend towards Camp 2. Stay at Camp 2 for the night.

Day 5 Camp 2 to Sissu & Drive to Manali

Today is the last day of this amazing trek. We will be retracing our steps back to civilization. Don’t forget to look back and admire the beauty of the valley.

Once we reach Sissu, we will be driving back to Manali via the famous Rohtang Pass. Spend some time at the pass, click pictures and say goodbye to the Lahaul valley. We will be reaching back to Manali by 5 PM.
