You can plan your Dev Kyara Itinerary almost any time of the year, except for the monsoon months between July and August; you don’t want the high chances of precipitation to ‘rain’ all over your plans, do you?
During the pre-monsoon months (April to June), you will be met with vibrant meadows and pristine alpine forests of pine and oak dotted with colorful flowers and wild berries. In post-monsoon months (September-November), along with a considerable drop in temperature, you will have a soothing experience – as nature begins to paint the paths you tread on, silvery white with dazzling snowflakes.
If you are a pro trekker looking for that extra thrill, you can try traversing this trail during the winter, when the entire landscape is covered with white, powdery snow!

The Dev Kyara Trek starts from the isolated hamlet of Sankri. To reach Sankri, we will be boarding a tempo from Dehradun. From the pickup point at Dehradun ISBT, the Sankri village is only a 7-8 hour drive. We will stop at Mussoorie for breakfast and tea before heading toward Sankri.
Once we reach Sankri, we can rest or explore the quaint hamlet to get a feel of the local culture and heritage. You can take a walk around the village and collect souvenirs for your friends and family back home. The evening is the perfect time to enjoy a traditional cup of masala chai and snack on some tasty local delicacies.

Starting the second day early, we will make our way to the awe-inspiring Obra Gad Campsite. The trek on this day will be pretty easy and filled with unique landscapes. We will take a 3-hour drive first to Boincha village (6762 ft.). Boincha is a meeting point of two glistening rivers – Dibra and Supin. Alpine forests of pine and oak surround the area.
From Boincha, we will gradually ascend to finally reach the picturesque Obra Gad campsite along the Dibra Gad river. At this point, you can take it easy and lose yourself in the rich natural beauties around you.
If you are trekking around the summer months, you can dip your toes in the calm river, lie down in the velvety soft grass and enjoy a solid view of the lofty peaks peeping from here and there! You can also take a trip down to the little villages and temples and finally retire for the night under the moonlit sky in your tents!

The third day of our Dev Kyara Trek Itinerary will probably be the longest and the most challenging as we ascend to a height of 11,250 ft. to reach the stunning Bhawa Waterfall. From the open meadows of the Obra Campsite, we will now be entering deep, enchanting pine forests. If you choose to trek pre-monsoon, you might also find bright flowers, rare mushrooms, and wild strawberries along the path!
After a steady trek through forests, rocks, and boulders, you will see a twist in the story! About 3-4 hrs. into the trek, you will witness a complete switch in the landscape. Once you cross the labyrinth-like forests, your eyes will open to vast expanding valleys surrounded by colossal mountains.
A few steps further, the Bhawa campsite will come into view. This gorgeous campsite might make your jaws drop! The breathtaking view of – deep, meandering valleys and misty waterfalls on the one hand, and the somber birch forests on the other; quite the combination, if you ask us!
The campsite will also make you feel at one with nature as the calm Dibra river runs by your side. A few more steps and you will be in front of the Bhawa Waterfall! Spend time gazing at the waterfall, exploring the forest, or simply lying down in the sun and soaking in this surreal landscape!
After a long day of walking, get a good night’s rest at this campsite, which seems like something out of a fairy tale!

As the sun rises to mark the fourth day of our Dev Kyara trek, excitement is at an all-time high. The time is finally here to embark on the journey toward Dev Kyara!
Trekking through the spiraling paths can be exhausting, but don’t worry; you will have numerous waterfalls to accompany you. Besides, once you reach the iconic Phulara Ridge, you will be in for a treat. The narrow edges of the ridge open up to a deep valley, providing you with a panoramic view of the majestic Garhwal Himalayan ranges like Bandarpoonch and Swargarohini.
After crossing the ridge and passing through the Pushtara Meadows, you will face some challenges as you traverse through boulder-studded tracks. But, this is the final stretch; just a few more miles and the Dev Kyara will come into view. The grassy meadows and gratifying view of the Ranglana peak will leave you in awe! If you are lucky enough, your eyes will also come across some sneaky snow-peaked mountains!
After a long day of trekking and exploring, you can finally retire for the night with a pure sense of joy and satisfaction!

Pack up your bag, and leave them at the campsite of Dev Kyara as you go for a short hike to further explore the alpine meadows! Once you have soaked in the true essence of a Himalayan trek, it’s time to return to Bhawa Waterfall campsite.
Now you might think that this will be a tedious journey, as you will be moving down the same route, sorry to say but you would be wrong! Seasoned trekkers know better than anyone that there’s a vast difference between going up and coming down!
Yes, you will be walking the same route, but trust me, you will come across different aspects of the trail that you might have missed the first time! Besides, descending is much easier than ascending, so you can enjoy the scenic landscape around you more without worrying about the altitude.
After reaching the Bhawa campsite, sit back, relax and enjoy the incredible view! I am sure one would not mind witnessing such a magnificent sight twice.

On the last day, we will be making our way to the right, where we started. Be careful and take special care of your knees, as you will continuously descend from Bhawa campsite until you reach Jakhol. From here, we will make our way to the starting point of the trek, Sankri, via a one-hour drive.
On reaching Sankri, you will probably be overcome with bittersweet feelings. On the one hand, the satisfaction of completing such an adventurous trek, and on the other, the pang of pain that all that excitement is now over.
But don’t be too sad; the memories of this incredible adventure will be fresh in your mind for a long time! So, setting everything aside, have a good rest!
