Day 1Arrival at Leh

Altitude: 3,500 m (11,500 ft)

Day 1 of the Chamser Kangri Expedition is an exciting one! On this day, you will arrive in Leh, a beautiful city located in the Ladakh region of India. You will be welcomed by your guide and team, which will help you get settled into your accommodation.

Once you have settled in, you can explore the city and its surroundings. Leh is known for its stunning landscapes, so take some time to admire them. You can also visit some local monasteries and learn about the Buddhist culture that has been prevalent in this area for centuries.

In the evening, you can enjoy a delicious dinner at one of the local restaurants and get to know your fellow trekkers better. Your main task for the first few days is to stay hydrated and nourished to prepare your body for the upcoming expedition. This is especially important since you will be heading to high altitudes, so you should drink plenty of water.

Day 2Acclimatization and Sightseeing

The second day of your Chamser Kangri Expedition is a chance to get used to the high altitudes. On this day, you will go on a sightseeing tour of some of the area’s most incredible places.

You will explore Hemis Monastery and Shanti Stupa, two ancient spiritual locations where you can learn about Buddhism. In the afternoon, you will visit Leh Palace and then enjoy some free time to explore the local marketplaces and take in the beauty of Leh.

You can explore the Leh Market and do some last-minute shopping for trekking gear. You should also ensure enough rest, as you will need all the energy in the following days.

The expedition leader will brief you on the expedition and answer any questions before the start of Day 3. In the evening, you can spend time with the rest of your team and get to know each other.

Day 3Leh to Peldo (Drive)

Distance: 200 km
Time Taken: 8 Hours
Altitude: 4,520 m (14,836 ft)

The third day marks the beginning of your Chamser Kangri Expedition. You will start early in the morning by driving from Leh to Peldo, a remote settlement on the banks of Tsomoriri Lake. The journey is around 8 hours long, so you should get enough rest before starting.

There are plenty of fascinating sights to admire on your way, like snow-capped mountains and vast meadows. You can also spot some wildlife in this area, such as Blue Sheep and Himalayan Marmots. This is an excellent opportunity to take some pictures and admires the beauty of nature.

Once you arrive in Peldo, you will be welcomed by the local people who will show you around the village. You can also stroll around and explore the local surroundings. After admiring the view, you can settle in your comfortable tents and get ready for the trekking adventure that is about to begin.  

You should stay hydrated during the journey and drink plenty of water to prepare for the upcoming trek. Enjoy a tasty dinner with your team in the evening and get some much-needed rest.

Day 4 Peldo to Skyruchu

When the sun rises, it’s time to start your trekking adventure. On this day, you will be heading from Peldo to Skyruchu, a 4-hour trek that will take you through vast open fields and rolling hills.

The view of snow-capped mountains in the background is breathtaking, so take plenty of pictures! You will also cross streams and rivers as you keep walking along the shores of Tso Moriri Lake.

The trek today is not very challenging, there’s no real ascend, and you will have plenty of time to admire the fantastic landscapes. When you arrive in Skyruchu, you will be welcomed by a beautiful campsite where you can rest for the night.

Take some time to explore the area; you might even spot some wild animals in this remote location. Refuel yourself with a hearty dinner and prepare for the next trek.

Day 5Skyruchu to Chamser Kangri Base Camp

In the morning, you will have an energy-filled breakfast and prepare for the next leg of your Chamser Kangri Expedition. Today’s trek is a gentle ascend to the base of the Chamser Kangri mountain.

The trek’s first leg is filled with stunning views of the lake and surrounding landscape. You will also find yourself surrounded by shrubs and wildflowers, a true paradise in these high altitudes.

The second part of the trek is a bit more challenging as you start your ascent up to Chamser Kangri Base Camp. As you get closer to the base camp, the ascend is steep, but the view of the surrounding mountains is mesmerizing!

You should arrive at Base Camp by late afternoon, where you will find a comfortable campsite to rest before the final ascent. Relax, enjoy dinner with your team, and get enough sleep to prepare for the challenging day ahead.

Day 6Rest & Acclimatization Day

In the morning, you should take a slow walk around Base Camp and enjoy the stunning views. This day is dedicated to rest and acclimatization; it’s an essential part of your Chamser Kangri Expedition as it gives your body time to adjust to the altitude.

You can also spend some time exploring the area and admiring the beauty of nature. Make sure to take some pictures, as these will be memories that last a lifetime. Depending on the conditions and the team’s performance, we may also use this day for a load ferry to the high camp.

When the sun sets, you should return to your campsite and enjoy a tasty dinner with your team. Get some much-needed rest and prepare for the coming days.

Day 7Chamser Kangri Base Camp to Advance Base Camp

Distance: 7 Km
Time Taken: 5 Hours
Altitude: 5,670 m (18,602 ft)

The sun is up, and the team is ready to start their ascent. Today’s journey will take you from Base Camp to Advance Base Camp, a 5-hour trek that starts with an easy ascend.

From Base Camp, you will start your trek along a well-defined trail. As you go up, the terrain will sometimes become rougher and steeper. The landscape is magnificent; take some time to admire the views of snow-capped mountains from different angles.

When you reach Advance Base Camp, you should take the time to relax and enjoy the stunning views. This is a great place to take pictures or admire nature in its purest form.

You may feel the effects of altitude sickness, so drink plenty of fluids and rest. When the sun sets, you should return to your campsite for dinner and much-needed rest.

Day 8Load Ferry to Summit Camp & Back

Distance: 10 Km
Time Taken: 8 Hours
Max Altitude: 6,080 m (19,950 ft)

Today is the day of the load ferry that will take you to Summit Camp! You should have gotten a good night’s rest, so it’s time to fuel up with a hearty breakfast and start the trek.

The first leg of this journey will be relatively gradual; however, as you get closer to Summit Camp, the terrain will become more complex. You may cross over glaciers and moraines, so stick close to your guide throughout the trek.

When you finally arrive at Summit Camp, take some time to admire the views of distant mountains and snow-covered peaks around you. This is a great place to take pictures, but make sure to conserve your energy for the trek back.

When ready, start the journey back toward Advance Base Camp and enjoy the breathtaking views. You should arrive at your campsite by evening, ready for a good rest and some well-deserved dinner.

Day 9Advance Base Camp to Summit Camp

Distance: 5 Km
Time Taken: 5 Hours
Max Altitude: 6,080 m (19,950 ft)

The team is now ready for the final stretch of the Chamser Kangri Expedition. The trek from Advance Base Camp to Summit Camp is rather steep, but it’s worth it!

The views are spectacular, and you can admire a range of mountains around you. Enjoy the beauty of nature as you make your way to Summit Camp. You’ll feel stronger today, and the effects of altitude will decrease.

When you finally make it to Summit Camp, take some time to admire the view from this high point. You’ve achieved a great accomplishment! Celebrate with your team, rest for a while, and take pictures if you wish.

Have lunch and sleep before Mt. Chamser Kangri’s summit attempt. You’ll be starting late in the night, so it’s essential to conserve your energy.

Day 10Summit Attempt & Descend

Distance: 5 Km + 17 Km
Time Taken: 12 Hours
Altitude: 6,622 m (21,725 ft)

The big day has finally arrived, and it’s time to make the summit attempt! The team should be well-rested and prepared for the rigorous trek ahead.

Take your time as you ascend along a steep route. As you make your way up, admire the breathtaking views of distant mountains around you. When conditions allow it, take a few moments to enjoy the beauty of nature. You’ll be crossing glacier crevasses and moraines, so stay close to your guide.

When you reach the summit, take some time to savor your accomplishment. Admire the views from the top before starting your descent. You can see a 360-degree view from mountains like Mt. Nun-Kun, Kang Yatse, and Stok Kangri, along with Lungser Kangri, next to you.

When you are ready, begin your descent and take it easy. The descent is tricky, and you should follow the same route that brought you up. The team should reach Base Camp by evening, ready for much-needed rest and dinner.

Day 11Base Camp to Skyruchu

Distance: 12 Km
Time Taken: 7 Hours
Altitude: 4,600 m (15,091 ft)

Today marks the end of an incredible journey, and you should feel proud of your accomplishment.

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at Base Camp before starting the 12 km trek to Skyruchu. The trail will take you along the same routes that brought you here, so keep an eye out for familiar landmarks.

Take time to admire the views of distant mountains and snow-covered peaks around you. As you reach Skyruchu, you will have accomplished something not many people get to do. Congratulations!

Day 12Return to Leh

This is the last day of the Chamser Kangri Expedition, and you are ready to return home with a sense of accomplishment.

Have breakfast at Skyruchu before returning to Leh. Enjoy the views as you make your way through stunning landscapes, valleys, and mountains. Take pictures along the way, but save some energy for the long drive back to Leh.

When you reach Leh, take some time to appreciate how far you have come and all you have achieved on this incredible journey. You’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for nature and an unforgettable experience in your heart.

Day 13Deprarture from Leh

You depart from Leh today, and it’s time to say goodbye.

Gather your belongings and take one last look around this beautiful place. Give a final thanks to all the locals who made your expedition so wonderful. Then start making your way home with a sense of accomplishment and unforgettable memories.

Day 14Buffer Day

This is a buffer day if the expedition runs late due to unforeseen circumstances such as bad weather or other factors. You should consider this day and book your tickets accordingly. You can use this day to explore Leh or relax in your hotel if this day is not utilized.

What are the requirements for participation?

Chamser Kangri expedition climbs up to a whopping altitude of 6630m. The challenges faced should not be underestimated. However, it doesn’t require technical climbing skills. But, the imposing altitude needs rigorous physical fitness, endurance, stamina, and proper acclimatization. Only 18+ candidates who are seasoned trekkers having prior experience in expeditions scaling heights above 4500 m and having no prior altitude-related health issues should attempt this expedition. 

What things are needed to be carried?

Rucksack with rain cover, waterproof & high ankle trekking shoes, one fleece jacket, one down feather/holofoil jacket, raincoat/poncho, three pairs of quick-dry T-shirts and trek pants, 5-6 pairs of socks, balaclava, waterproof hand gloves with liner, a daypack, sunscreen SPF 50+, scarf, towel, lip balm, headlamp/torch, two water bottles of 1 liter, and personal medicines.
